MEALS ON WHEELS AMERICA NEWS

STARVING VETERAN WHO CALLED 911 FOR FOOD RECEIVES HELP FROM MEALS ON WHEELS

May 22, 2015
Meals on Wheels America Member Cumberland County Council on Older Adults in Fayetteville, NC has taken action in response to the starving veteran, Clarence Blackmon, who called 911 because he didn’t have any food in the house. Blackmon, who is 81 and battling cancer, can barely stand or walk.

"[Meals on Wheels is] going to start bringing me meals on Thursday, so I'm all fixed up," Blackmon said. "I thank God for it. Some days I just don’t feel like getting in the kitchen and cooking."

Blackmon represents the one out of every six seniors in America who currently might not know where their next meal is coming from.  And, the number of seniors in our country will grow exponentially over the coming years. Meals on Wheels is a proven and vital safety net that effectively addresses the challenges of aging by promoting health and improving quality of life for our nation’s most vulnerable seniors.
