MEALS ON WHEELS AMERICA RECEIVES TOP ASAE HONORS FOR ITS MORE THAN A MEAL PROGRAM

Jun 23, 2015

Meals on Wheels America has earned a 2015 ASAE Power of A Gold Award for its More Than a Meal Program, designed to provide members with the information needed to effectively protect and grow the support they need to serve the seniors in their communities.

ASAE honored Meals on Wheels for helping ensure there is no reduction in service for those in need.  The organization proved the value of the traditional model and armed its members with the resources needed to tell their story. Of particular concern was the trend in some communities to close a funding gap by drop-shipping frozen meals weekly. Those in the Meals on Wheels network know that this reduction in service – cutting socialization and daily safety checks – has adverse health consequences. However, there has never been data to prove it, until Meals on Wheels commissioned research by Brown University.

“Congratulations to Meals on Wheels America for helping make the world a better place,” said Hugh “Mac” Cannon, MPA, CAE, Executive Director of ACEC of Metropolitan Washington, and chair of the Power of A Awards Judging Committee. “Their program exemplifies how associations make a difference every day – not just to the industry or profession they represent, but to society at large.”

More Than a Meal is vitally important information for a variety of stakeholders spanning policymakers, administrators and health care providers to funders, the media and general public. And, it’s an important message for virtually every community in America.

ASAE’s Power of A (association) Awards, the industry’s highest honor, recognize the association community’s valuable contributions on the local, national and global level.  The Power of A Awards reward outstanding accomplishments of associations and industry professionals for their efforts to enrich lives, create a competitive workforce, prepare society for the future, drive innovation and make a better world.
