Ken is the Chief Financial and Operating Officer at Meals on Wheels America. With nearly 40 years of experience in finance, Ken has focused most of the last three decades of his career on helping nonprofits thrive.
Prior to joining Meals on Wheels America, Ken spent nearly 20 years with the United Way network locally, nationally and globally in various roles including Chief Financial Officer (local), Vice President – Controller (global), Vice President of Membership Accountability (national) and Director of International Member Accountability (global). Prior to United Way, he served as the Director of Finance for the Grand Rapids Art Museum and Vice President of Finance and Development for Leisure Living Management Inc. He also served as a member of the Financial Accounting Standards Board Not-for-Profit Advisory Committee and as a liaison with other organizations, including the Internal Revenue Service, the Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance and the World Bank Foundation.
Ken has authored or co-authored numerous accounting and financial management guides and white papers and is a frequent speaker at conferences, seminars and webinars on a variety of topics, including preparation of nonprofit audited financial statements, IRS Form 990 reporting, collaboration and merger among nonprofits, maintaining strong internal controls, building and maintaining operating reserves, good governance and ethical practices. Ken holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Western Michigan University.
