  • SUBARU DONATES 50 CARS TO MEALS ON WHEELS AMERICA IN CELEBRATION OF 50TH ANNIVERSARY IN THE U.S.

    In celebration of its 50th anniversary, and in keeping with its philosophy of supporting local communities, Subaru of America, Inc. announced today its donation of 50 vehicles to Meals on Wheels America. This fall, 50 new 2018 Subaru Outback vehicles will be donated to select Meals on Wheels programs throughout the country, to be used in the delivery of an estimated 53,000 meals to an additional 3,700 seniors across 39 states. The donation will address the Meals on Wheels network's growing demand for fuel-efficient, versatile and safe delivery vehicles to enable our nation's most vulnerable seniors to live nourished lives with independence and dignity. Carol joins the nationwide Meals on Wheels network in making an appeal to Congress to #SaveLunch by protecting and increasing the critical federal funding sources upon which 8 out of 10 local Meals on Wheels programs rely.   • CAESARS FOUNDATION DONATES 60TH DELIVERY VEHICLE TO MEALS ON WHEELS AMERICA

    In an effort to help the more than 10 million seniors struggling with hunger and millions more living in isolation, the Caesars Foundation today donated its 60th delivery vehicle to Meals on Wheels America. These vehicles are essential to the Meals on Wheels network to deliver nutritious meals, and to make friendly visits and frequent safety checks to vulnerable seniors. For many seniors, Meals on Wheels enables them to "age in place" in their own homes, rather than be hospitalized or relocate to a long-term care facility. [READ]

    Many seniors who are discharged from the hospital face enormous challenges in getting get back on their feet. Many won’t have access to the nutritious meals needed for a successful recovery. There’s probably no one there to remove hazards in the home that could lead to additional injuries, and there’s likely no companion to help reduce feelings of depression and anxiety that are exacerbated by illness and isolation.
