PetSmart Charities

Thanks to PetSmart Charities, seniors and their pets have received 13 million pet meals, often along with access to veterinary care and other pet supplies. We know maintaining the human-animal bond reduces loneliness and supports seniors’ health.

According to a 2021 survey, nearly 100 percent of Meals on Wheels clients with pets say animals make them happier and less lonely1. But looking after these four-legged friends isn’t always easy for seniors facing mobility and financial constraints.

To help older adults provide for their loyal pet companions, PetSmart Charities®, the leading funder of animal welfare in North America, partners with Meals on Wheels America to help deliver pet food to the doorsteps of homebound seniors across the country. But feeding is just the start:

  • Thanks to funding, local providers offer access to veterinary care.
  • Providers also offer pet supplies, grooming and more.
  • PetSmart Charities has supported the creation of toolkits that empower providers to secure additional pet program donations locally.

Together, PetSmart Charities and the Meals on Wheels network have delivered over 13 million pet meals to seniors across the country, making it easier for our aging neighbors to care for their dogs, cats and other pets.
